In 1992, Siva Shankar established an organization called "Samratchana". It is the centre for self-realization. Samratchana's prime object is "SELF REALIZATION", the persistent goal of the Human Race. Baba believes that social service activities are stepping-stones to spirituality. His view is that only if the fundamental problems of people are resolved will they think of 'The Self and Seek' enlightenment.

In 1992, Samratchana operated from a place called 'Mannadi' in Chennai. This was a small place. At Mannadi, Samratchana was a close-knit family. To the Samratchanites, Baba was a friend, elder brother and father. By 1996, Mannadi had started to attract so many people that Samratchana began to experience a shortage of space. The organisation was shifted to Besant Nagar. After six months at Besant Nagar, paucity of space forced Samratchana to shift once again. The organisation moved to a place called 'Neelangarai' in May of 1997. Samratchana reached its peak at Neelankarai.

On the 5th June,1999, some miscreants provoked by an envious "spiritualist", set fire to Neelankarai premises. Over the following days, Baba and his 200 volunteers re-built the ashram. On 17th June 1999, just 11 days after the fire incident, Samratchana premises stood renovated, thanks to its volunteer force. On Vaikunta Ekadasi day in 2001, the Pooranabrahmam idol was installed in Neelankarai. On 6th of April 2001, the idol was shifted to Ramarajya at Kelambakkam. On 7th of April, the temple kumbabishekam for the idol was performed. Samratchana activities were gradually shifted to Kelambakkam. Over the years, Baba's ashram at Kelambakkam has steadily expanded. It grew from 8 acres in 1999 to more than 40 acres, by 2011.

Samratchana is an effort to establish Dharma, trail blaze the righteous path for the world that is in darkness. It is a new world order and an ongoing social transformation where you can find an enthusiastic team of members serving society selflessly. Especially in today's world where values seem to be taking a beating, it is amazing to find that youngsters here are being chiseled into citizens the world will be proud of.

Samratchana aims at helping mankind realize the God within, through the practical philosophy of Baba. Baba has a realistic approach to materialistic life. He enunciates spirituality in a manner that is easily understandable to the common man. Above all this, he is easily approachable to the seeker. In an age where too much of confusion over spirituality and mythology is leading more and more people towards atheism, Baba comes a welcome leader to motivate them back on the spiritual trail. For, Baba practices what he preaches, and that is nothing but unadulterated pure love towards every single creation of God.

Siva Shankar Baba Says, Whoever trust in me and comes to Samratchana, I WILL TAKE CARE OF ALL HIS WANTS.

Samratchana is a Sanskrit word meaning total protection. In villages, this word is colloquially used in Tamil to mean ‘taking care’.

Samratchana is not a ‘Hindu religious organization’. At Ramarajya Spiritual complex, besides temples, there are Church, Mosque, Buddha Vihar, Gurudwara and a Jain temple; so it is obvious that Samratchana does not isolate any religion. Everday Vedas are chanted here, so are the Bible and Quran. People of different faiths attend the Lalitha Sahasranama pooja (worship of Shakthi) performed every Friday and the Pournami Yagam (Full moon; fire offering on a large scale). Deepavali (festival of Lights) and Christmas are celebrated with equal zest, as are the prime festivals of all religions. Baba's philosophy is that the world cannot become one family if we exclude anyone; people must be free to worship any divine form they want, understanding that the form may be different, the Divinity is One.

And Samratchana is actually not an organization. It is a model of Vasudeva Kudumbakam (the concept of the world as one family). Amidst spiritual establishments, Samratchana stands a class apart as a spiritual family, because it has mastered the art of volunteer service. Samratchana has successfully eliminated the need for money as a resource as also the distinction of caste, creed, gender, materialistic station. There is no paid staff anywhere in this organization. Volunteers, who have understood Baba's concept of Universal Love and the whole world being one family, render the various services during their leisure time. Baba never ask anyone to do service. Baba illustrate by doing it himself; He is the first volunteer of Samratchana. By observing Baba, people get drawn into serving everyone as God.

Samratchana is the center for self-realization, helping people become aware of their innate Divinity. Lack of material resources and lack of direction is deflecting people away from their divinity. Samratchana offers various facilities that cater to the needs of people making them healthier, self-sufficient leaders, so they can use their time to realize the Divinity that they are.

Samratchana resolve the fundamental problems of unemployment and insecurity that today’s youth face, by providing knowledge resources free of cost, thus giving them self-esteem, and avenues to make their living. And in present day society where both parents work to make ends meet, the youth, who feel abandoned, find a caring shoulder in Baba. Volunteers willingly serve Samratchana’s mission, knowing that Baba is always there for them, whatever be the circumstances.

Samratchana is the only place where you will find people moving as members of the same family investing total care in each other, regardless of age, creed, gender or background - because Samratchana is not just yet another Institution, it is THE CENTRE FOR SELF REALIZATION, it is THE MODEL OF THE UNIVERSAL FAMILY.

Samratchana is Sanskrit means 'Total Protection'. While Baba was in meditation in 1984, the word Samratchana flashed onto his mind along with the words "Saranam", "Abhayam",and Aiswaryam". The symbol of Samratchana is the lotus feet of God placed on a lotus flower with eight petals. This signifies Saranam, which means surrender. Abhayam means protection. It is symbolised by a hand. The hand contains the conch, discus, bow & arrow, Muruga's lance, Siva's deer and mazhu. The logo also contains a blue flame that signifies salvation or liberation.

The activities of Samratchana need to be viewed in two angles viz. The Spiritual Angle and The Worldly Angle.

In the spiritual angle, every evening finds Samratchana a veritable paradise on earth, with Bhajans, Baba’s spiritual discourses and his clarifications to people’s doubts. Homam is performed daily in the morning to the divine recital of the Vedas, every Friday Lalitha Sahasranamam pooja is conducted; on Full Moon (Pournami) days, a Maha Yagam is conducted followed by Satya Narayana Pooja in the evening. The materials of worship for these poojas and prasadam are distributed free of cost to all the participants.
Many have benefited from Baba’s spiritual discourses, rich in content, breathing of a strong element of down to earth practicality. Baba’s spiritual expositions are worded in a way easily understood by the common man and his easy accessibility removes the inhibition of people and helps them clarify any spiritual, intellectual or moral doubts they have.

These form part of every evening Sathsangam, and are attended eagerly by devotees from all walks of life, belonging to various age groups (It is common to see very young children listening earnestly to Baba’s speeches).

Samratchana sports an extra festive atmosphere during festivals like New Year, Jan 26th – Baba’s self-realization day, Jan 28th – Baba’s birthday, Pongal, Deepavali, Tamil New Year’s day, Ugadi – Telugu New Year’s day, Vishu – Malayali New Year’s day. Ramzan, Christmas, Navarathiri, Skanda Shashti. Various cultural programmes like dance, dramas, instrumental and vocal concerts are conducted by Samratchana volunteers to display their talents that Baba had so lovingly nurtured.

Apart from these, auspicious days like Sivarathiri (relating to Lord Shiva), Vaikunta Ekadesi (relating to Lord Vishnu), Krishna Jayanthi, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Rama Navami – to name a few, and days associated with saints and spiritual leaders of all sects are observed.

On Full moon days and on some auspicious days like Navarathiri, Kanda Shashti, Great Yagnas are performed; every full moon day sees a different yagna, with a purpose to get rid of the materialistic and spiritual difficulties of the seeker. The whole days adorns a festive look with various performances given by Samratchana volunteers.

That is exactly what Samratchana is all about throwing away your inhibitions and realizing that you are part and parcel of one large family – the family called Samratchana; the ultimate practice of self-realization – the comprehension that you and I are one and the same; it is only that the shirts of the external body clothing us looks different.

Viewing from the worldly angle, during weekends, in the morning, Baba uses time counseling people, hearing out their grievances and offering them moral support. As a step in creating awareness among the people, various intellectuals give special lectures on all walks of life on Saturday and Sunday evenings at the intellectual forum meet at Samratchana premises.

Samratchana, as an institution, offers various facilities to cater to the needs of people to make them self-sufficient human beings. It believes in the fact that human beings can devote more time on self awareness, only when their basic needs are fulfilled. The objective of the centre is to make resources available to everybody, free of cost, solve their problems and bring out their latent abilities, which they had hitherto not discovered.

Facilities in Samratchana: It is worthy to note that the instructors, doctors and other professionals for the various services offered are volunteers who have offered their services absolutely free of cost.

Free medical and legal services and also free weddings for the economically weaker section are rendered here. Homams, poojas, bhajans and discourses happen here everyday. Several books on spirituality and discussions on relevant issues have been published.

Social Activities: Baba’s long term mission is to inculcate the feeling of brotherhood among the varied sections of the society by breaking the barriers of economic status, class, religion, caste, creed, sect, age and sex.

Mere charity to the poor and needy will not solve the socio-economic problems of this society. The economically weaker sections of the society today are facing a lot of hurdles in their material upliftment. The reason being they cannot afford to spend on proper education that will fetch them a good earning. Today’s education has become very costly and is almost unreachable to the poor and the needy. This has resulted in the discrimination based on class and gets imprinted in the young minds which is the root cause of all the socio-economic problems. If this gap is bridged, that is to say, if the poor and the needy are provided with the same quality of education free of cost, this will be a beginning in removing the class differences, thereby achieving universal brotherhood.
Baba through “Samratchana” aims to unite all the religions, races and classes of people into one. Baba has adopted eighteen villages around Chennai such as Alathur and Vengaleri.

Free academic education is provided to the people, apart from providing them with free Medical services, Training in technical education and also creating income generating opportunities to them, through ‘Grama Mempattu Sangam’ or ‘Village Development Society’, a wing of Samratchana.

The people of Vengaleri village have got a new hope in life as the free tailoring, typewriting and tuition classes open up avenues for a livelihood.

The main thrust of the Sangam is total health care. In the Free Medical camps conducted every week, the people queue up for free consultation and medicines. Complications are rushed to the nearby hospital and treated at the expense of the Sangam. Free food cooked in a healthy atmosphere by Samratchana volunteers is served to all and devotional songs are sung as the patients wait for their turns to see the doctors. The volunteers of Samratchana, visit the houses of the patients and periodically review their health status.

Opportunities are provided by the Sangam, to the women pursuing the tailoring classes to earn, through the export orders taken by the Sangam for their benefit. The sangam also encourages the women to earn by helping them manufacture various home-made food products and market them. The villagers are also taught how to invest their income wisely with all nuances of operating bank accounts made clear to them.

This is only a beginning, and Samratchana’s aim is to uplift the economically weaker sections globally, by rendering yeomen service to the people in need, thereby leading them towards Spiritual enlightenment too.
